Question: 2003 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner SR5 Power Steering Pump?
My personal mechanic and a Toyota mechanic have both told me that there is a leak coming from the Power Steering Pump. For right now, it's not a big issue but over time it will become a big deal. Toyota told me that the pump itself is $349.00! Does that price sound about right or should I shop around elsewhere? Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Answer: The price sounds about right. You could also try get a second hand pump but it wont have any guarantee like the new one and you wont know if it even works until you put it on( by which time you have already spent the money). I know that the new part is expensive but if anything goes wrong you can take it back.

Question: I am trying to find a used (toyota tacoma) ext cab truck not a tundra, sorry all i had a typo?
I am trying to find a used toyota tacoma ext cab truck?
i am very interested in buying a small truck under $4,000 prefferably a toyota tacoma,
that is in good condition and not to high of miles and that runs good and won't give me any problems.so anyone out there that lives in minnesota between elk river an milaca i would be very appreciated if you would answer this thankyou.

Answer: i apologize in advance if this information is not useful.

i would have the car thoroughly inspected / reviewed at a toyota dealership and maybe an independent reputable car repair shop prior to purchase. price complete servicing while you are there (mileage service, all fluids and filters, and repairs needed).

with my experience looking for a similar vehicle in texas, you may want to reconsider year of production and price range. your demands are very high for such a high demand vehicle. have you consider financing a vehicle in the 7000-9000 price range and using your cash as downpayment and for initial maintenance and servicing? best with your search michael

Question: Whats your opinion about buying a new toyota tacoma 4x2 vs buying a 4x4?
I live in northeastern Massachusetts and have been debating whether four wheel drive is worth the extra money? I have a 1988 Nissan 4x4 truck. I only use the four wheel drive in the winter. I have been considering the extra weight, maintenance and costs against the benefits. I know when we have snows i would feel safer with four wheel drive. There is about a $4000 difference between the 4x4 vs the 4x2. I have also been thinking about how it might effect it's resale value even if i plan on keeping it a long time ( maybe keep it as long as i've had my 1988 Nissan truck).

We have a lot of salt up here and the frame has serious rot, so i can't keep my Nissan truck. I have really loved the truck and wish i could keep driving it! I think i'm going to donate it to the cancer society.

Answer: Don't they put an undercoat at the factor on new vehicles? when i buy the new Tacoma i was going to skip the offer if asked.

Answer: I would always go for the 4x4. But it really depends how you are going to use the truck, and where you are going to use the truck. I have a 4x4 Ford Ranger, and like you, i mostly use 4 wheel drive only during the winter. But there have been a few situations where I've gotten stuck, and 4 wheel drive has saved me. And you also have to understand, that when you dont have a load in the back of your truck, traction is considerably less than normal, 4 wheel drive can help you keep thte truck under control in those situations.

Question: Reseting the maintenance required lamp on a 2006 toyota tacoma pickup?
at 5000 miles, the maintenance required lamp comes on to advise that an oil change is to be done as well as some other minor maintenance. The maintenance schedule book says to reset the MRQ. HOW?

Answer: not absolutely possitive but on a 06 highlander you have the key off. then push in the trip button and hold it. While holding it in, turn the key forward to on (not start) wait about 5-10 seconds and the light should go out and odometer will read 000000 for a second. Hope it works.

Question: I have an 06 toyota tacoma V-6 p/u how do I get the Maint required lite to turn off?
I bought this truck new in 07 I have 4000 miles on it and I do my own maint. the Maint req light just came on how do I reset it?

Answer: Lord Vader is close, no cigar, Turn the ignition on, odometer should be on current mileage. Turn off. Turn key to accessory, you should be able to see your mileage. At same time press odometer down and hold for about 5 seconds. Should re-set. If not you may have actual problem. Newer Toyotas have set in them to flash for oil changes, usually ever 5,000 miles.

Question: How can I find out if my Toyota Tacoma has both differential lookers?
specially the front one

Answer: if you lift the front of your vehicle so thatt both the front tires are off the ground. then grab one tire and spin it. the other should spin the same direction as the one you are spinning if it is locked up with lockers if you have hubs make sure they are locked in and you can do tha same with the rear, jack up both rear tires and spin one. if it is an open diff. then other tire you are not spinning will spin the other direction. I'm not sure if it is the same with a limited slip differential or not.

By the way it seems to be a wonderful truck, I almost bought one, but I went for the bigger one, Tundra, instead.

Question: I have a 2005 toyota tacoma and it has a weak start could it be the battery?

Answer: yes, have the battery tested along with the charging system on your truck. the battery might be good but the alternator might not be charging it well enough to recharge it fully. also if you do a lot of short driving sometimes the alternator doesn't have enough running time to recharge the battery for the juice it lost during the starting. i dont think the dealer will charge you anything, but dont be surprised if you see like a 1/2 hr for diag time.

Question: Toyota Tacoma vibrates while accelerating?
My '99 Tacoma V6 started vibrating whenever I would give it gas. Then it felt like it was not sending fuel out of the injectors even though I had the pedal down. When that started it threw a code for a bad TPS. So I replaced that and it is giving the engine gas, however it still vibrates when I accelerate. Are these related or is something else causing the vibration? It is not showing any code after I replaced the TPS. Again, it only vibrates when I am giving it gas, as soon as I let off it is smooth.

It is a Maunal Tranny. I just had the Tires rotated and Balanced about 600 miles ago. It definitly feels like the vibe is coming from the engine area. Could dirty fuel injectors cause it?

Answer: Given that you believe the vibration to be from the engine, the 5VZ has 3 coils on the right bank which fire those plugs directly and then wires that run to the left bank. I have seen a lot of higher mileage coils fail, so that is a possibility. If the coil is going out, it can cause what you are describing, either missing on the one cylinder or both that that coil is firing. Also, those engines are designed to run on dual electrode plugs, and do not perform well on single, or for that matter, any plugs that are not Nippondenso (Toyota) or NGK. I would go for pulling the plugs out and checking them first, followed by checking the wires and coils next. Injectors can cause what you are describing, but generally will show up at an idle.

Assuming the problem is ignition, the reason it does what you are describing is that there is not enough fire to ignite the fuel mixture under the increased load. But after you back off and the pressures drop, the cylinder goes back to firing. That's why I think it may be in the ignition.

Question: I need a diagram showing the wire ID's in the junction box of my 07 Toyota Tacoma with 4 cylinder engine.?
I bought a cruise control and the diagram that came with it does not match my junction box layout.

Answer: 2007 Toyota Tacoma 4 cyl. has 3 junction boxes. One on driver side of instrument panel, one in passenger side of instrument panel, one under the hood.Witch one you need?I've got them all,but pictures could send you only at yours ......@yahoo.com address.

Question: What would you say is a good first car? im thinking about a 1998 toyota tacoma?

Answer: As the others said, Pick-up truck are really for working purpose, not for cummute daily driving. The suck gasoline like a vampire. It will cost you $60 to fill up each time, probably gets you around 200-300 miles or so. which a corolla can get with $25 filling. I recommand a first car to be a small compact like focus, coroll, civics, neon like. Or if you dont like those, the bigger camry accord could be a good pick.
Unless you are a construction workers or needs a truck for some reason, no one else should recommands it.

Question: I need help choosing a Truck. 2001 4x4 , Ford F150 vs Nissan Frontier vs Toyota Tacoma?
I have $12,000 to spend on a truck. I cannot decide, what to get. Im leaning toward the Frontier. So a 1999 F150 4x4 (10K) or a 2001 Nissian Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 (12K)or save longer and get the Toyota Double Cab Tacoma ($16,000K about). Im leaning towards the Nissian which has 66K miles and is a 2001 automatic, dealer wants 12K for it. Any one else thing thats an good idea?

About the Tacomas, They all have over 110K miles on them and they are all +16K or more. Dealer are charging a massive premium on the trucks. The Frontier is still a good truck right? Just not as good as the Toyota?

Answer: TOYOTA, hands down! They are well-made, quality vehicles; it's worth the extra money.
Nissan is OK, but not as good as Toyota.
DON'T buy the Ford. Ford is absolute crap; It will literally fall apart on you. I'd rather ride the bus than drive a Ford!
